About the School

The School of Population Health at The University of Melbourne offers a unique and exciting range of postgraduate professional education and research training opportunities. The School of Population Health has a population health focus on urban health issues, on indigenous health, on the links between genomics and public health, and a solid commitment to rigour in scientific methods, be they in quantitative or in qualitative traditions.

The School of Population Health has considerable strengths in traditional public health sciences as well as in social sciences, ethics and medical humanities, and in newer molecular and genetic epidemiologic disciplines.

Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds in health (medicine, nursing, allied health), social sciences, the physical sciences, the humanities and others. Students also come from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds, from within Australia and from many overseas countries. They enrol at many different career stages and ages.

Opportunities exist for full-time or part-time study towards Graduate Certificates and Diplomas, Masters by Research or by Coursework, PhDs and professional doctorates. Our commitment is to provide a high quality education experience for students from all backgrounds recognising the diversity and richness of their past training and experiences.

The Department of Public Health is located close to all of the central University amenities and teaching facilities, close to public transportation, and also to the social and commercial attractions of Carlton and inner city of Melbourne.

The Key Centre for Women’s Health in Society is located within the Royal Women’s Hospital, just across from the Department of Public Health building on Swanston street.
