Biography

Dr Marion Frere is the Deputy Director of the McCaughey Centre: VicHealth Centre for the Promotion of Mental Health and Community Wellbeing. Dr Frere leads McCaughey Centre research on the impact of violence and discrimination on mental health and community wellbeing.  She is a member of the academic team that is partnering with the Victorian State Government on a five-year research program on family violence reform, with a particular interest in questions of integration and capacity building in policy and service delivery.  She is also conducting research into the impact of violence on social inclusion, with a focus on the ways in which intimate partner violence impacts on social participation and social networks.  In the area of discrimination, she is working with VicHealth and Onemda on the development of a Framework to Address Racism and research into the economic costs of racism.  Prior to her re-appointment to academia in September 2006, Dr Frere was a senior manager in the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet, responsible for a range of strategic research projects. Her PhD won the Chancellors Prize for Humanities in 2002.
