Associate Professor Bridget Hsu-Hage

Bridget Hsu-Hage (MS Columbia, PhD Monash) is a population health researcher with a background in statistics and epidemiology. Her career highlights include:
- Peer reviewed competitive research and consultancy evaluation grants in excess of $5.7M.
- Co-author to 81 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 14 reports, 11 invited conference papers, 77 presentations at international and national conferences, and 6 websites.
- Completion of research students at an average of 1.6 (EFT) during her years at the University of Melbourne: 4 PhDs, 5 Masters, 5 Bachelor/Advanced Medical Sciences, 1 Honours since 1992.
- Instrumental to the development of evidence-based service delivery in northern Victoria. Recent involvement: Healthy Neighbourhood Project (2004-06), The North Shepparton and Seymour community surveys as part of the Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy (2003-04), Goulburn Valley Health Hospital Demand Management Strategy: HARP 3 (2003-06), the Greater Shepparton Best Start Demonstration Project (2003-06), The Greater Shepparton Community Capacity Building Project (2002-05), The Greater Shepparton Public Health Plan (2000-05).
- Ethnic Health Research: 1) instigated the Tianjin Study of Diabetes in Pregnancy in China in 1998, provided training for universal screening and diabetes clinical management, established Gestational Diabetes Mellitus specialist clinic, provided post-partum follow-up, established epidemiological data collection unit. This project used evidence-based approach to instigate a new public policy for universal screening, treatment options, and systematic data collection; 2) project leader to the Chinese Australian Better Health Research Project (1997-2001), provided a comprehensive community health needs assessment, GP practice-based lifestyle intervention for the prevention of type II diabetes in high-risk individuals, GP best practice training, a practice audit of the management of peptic ulcer; and developed community health promotion and education programs based upon the evidence derived from needs assessment.
