Biography

Keagan James is employed as casual staff support at the Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Tobacco Control since February. Keagan is a Yorta Yorta man from Shepparton in country Victoria. Keagan's background is in youth work, where he has worked with youth at risk in Bendigo and surrounding areas. Keagan has a passion for youth work and youth drug & alcohol prevention work.

Keagan lived in Brazil for 12 months in 2002 through a student exchange organisation, whilst there Keagan immersed himself in Brazilian culture, Keagan spent most of my time in the favelas studying “capoeira”, a rare Brazilian art form/martial art. When he returned to Australia he began working with local youth organisations and the Bendigo and District Aboriginal Co-op, working with St.lukes anglicare on a hip hop program called “Reel to Real”. This is a program that helped kids at risk to express themselves and tell their stories through music.
