Biography

Sarah’s career spans academic, senior public service, community sector advocacy and youth work roles. Much of her research has explored meanings of drug and alcohol use for young people. Her PhD, completed in 2007, was a study of social meanings of inhalant use in Melbourne, Australia. Subsequently she was employed at Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre in Melbourne working on a range of research projects. 

Sarah’s current position is funded through an ARC linkage postdoctoral fellowship to explore qualitative and quantitative measures of alcohol consumption and associated harms for young people within an urban and a peri-urban (outer- government areas in Victoria, Australia. This project involves partnership with Yarra and Hume City Councils, the Victorian Department of Health, VicHealth, the National Drug Research Institute and the Municipal Association of Victoria.

Sarah has particular expertise in qualitative methodologies and a commitment to undertaking research that will produce practical suggestions for policy and intervention.
