What were you doing before you became a student at the Melbourne School of Population Health?

I am a Palliative Care Physician, and prior to commencing full-time PhD study I was the Physician in-charge of the Palliative Care Unit at Broadmeadows Health Service.

What made you apply for your course?

I wanted to do a PhD exploring an area of medical ethics, which was of interest to me - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation decision-making.  It seemed that the best person to supervise my PhD would be A/Prof Lynn Gillam, and when she kindly agreed, I enrolled for PhD study in the School of Population Health.

What makes the Melbourne School of Population Health a great place to study?

The friendliness of everyone.  It is a very social place, where there is a very deliberate effort to facilitate people from all areas of work and study getting to know each other.  Having an allocated study space to work on my PhD is also very important, and the other post-graduate students are very generous in helping newer students, by sharing knowledge and experience.

Any advice for new students?

Get to know the other post-graduate students by attending some of the organised meetings, such as the 'Reading Group'.
