What were you doing before you became a student at the Melbourne School of Population Health?

I was working in Cambodia at an NGO run hospital, in project management and stakeholder relations (through AusAID's Australian Youth Ambassador for Development program). I’m currently working for the University of Melbourne as the project manager on a malaria prevention in pregnant women study, being conducted in Papa New Guinea. My previous study was in Psychology, Asian Studies and management.

What made you apply for your course?

The Master of Public Health at Melbourne offers an interesting and wide selection of subjects relevant to my area of interest (International Health) presenting the current state of research in a number of fields. I had previously studied at Melbourne (couple of undergraduate degrees) and wanted to return.

What makes the Melbourne School of Population Health a great place to study?

The other students (particularly in the International Health stream) bring a diverse range of knowledge and experience from all the over the world, especially from developing countries, that is really valuable. The staff are excellent, presentations are interesting and relevant, fantastic variety of guest lecturers. It’s also great to have exposure to the work being done at The Nossal Institute.

Any advice for new students?

I highly recommend the Melbourne School of Population Health and the Master of Public Health. You can really tailor the course to your interests, but there is also plenty of opportunity to experience new areas of research and practice that you might not otherwise be exposed to.
