What were you doing before you became a student at the Melbourne School of Population Health?
I am a physician in Rehabilitation Medicine, working in part time private practice in chronic wound care. I completed my medical degree nearly 30 years ago at this university.
What made you apply for your course?
I have always been interested in the relationships between doctors and patients, especially in relation to chronic illness, and related ethical issues. This course is unique in its approach, with teachers and students from so many diverse backgrounds who bring to great life experience to their studies.
What makes the Melbourne School of Population Health a great place to study?
Lecturers in the Centre for Health & Society are excellent, friendly and approachable, the classes are small and participation is encouraged. I had never studied humanities before, but I received great support and encouragement to enable me to approach assignments with confidence. I also enjoy the campus and surrounding environment with wide choice of places to get a good coffee!
Any advice for new students?
Get involved in the many seminars and presentations, and spend some time in the centre outside of class time if you can, so you can get to know your fellow students, and lecturers. What started as an interest for me has become a passion! Maybe it can be like this for you as well.
